Bell-ringers that start class calmly

A consistent opening routine gives students a first action and gives you a predictable moment to take attendance, check in, and see what they know.

Step 1

Display

Put one prompt and the finish time on the board before students enter.

Step 2

Greet students at the door, then start the visible timer when the bell rings.

Step 3

Students write silently for three minutes. Accept a sketch, list, or first attempt when appropriate.

Step 4

Ask for two answers and one “I am still wondering…” before transitioning.
